Richard Watson was born in Mansfield and attended Mansfield High School before entering a 32-year career as a sports administrator with cricket, holding senior management and executive roles both with interstate associations, Cricket Australia and the International Cricket Council.
He pursued his lifelong passion with art in 1999 by establishing the Mansfield Easter Art Show which celebrates 22 successful years in April this year.
In 2003 Richard established Maling Road Gallery in Canterbury which was followed by two more galleries in Hawthorn and Mansfield, a period as Manager of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists and a five-year role as Director of Exhibitions with Without Pier Gallery in Cheltenham.
During that period he developed close working relationships with many artists, galleries and art groups throughout Victoria and interstate and has been called upon to judge some major art awards including the ANL Maritime Art Prize, Victorian Artists Society Artist of the Year and in April 2019, the Australian Equine Art Prize.

Richard is now enjoying his return home to the Mansfield region and resides in Barwite.
